The speculation around the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
